Meet the Heat – Mari Carr

Well, I have to say, it sucks to be last in this group. Talk about a hard act to follow. This IH gals know how to rock a blog. Thought I’d start my week with a wrap-up! I’m a teacher and this week will see me back to work–spent last week in meetings and on Wed., the teenagers will fill the hallways once more! I think like most teachers, I had big plans for my summer. Writing, cleaning house, losing weight, and a pile of TBR books as tall as me were on that list.

I didn’t lose any weight, but I did maintain, which I figure was a lucky thing given the fact I’ve been entertaining the in-laws for a month and my hubby’s family LIKES to eat. LOL. I also cleaned and rearranged the HELL out of my house. Made myself an office that I love. Thought I’d share a pic.

Valerie shared a list of books I’d planned to write over my two months off — Power Play, Any Given Sunday, Southern Comfort, Because You Love Me, and Love Story. I’m very sorry to report I only completed one of those stories. However–Power Play was accepted at Samhain and is looking at a *tentative* release date of Jan. 2011. In my defense (though I’ll admit it’s a poor one), I wrote about a third of Southern Comfort and about 500 words worth of Any Given Sunday.

This summer was also an exciting one for me in terms of releases. Sweet Thursday, Rekindled, and Friday I’m in Love came out at Ellora’s Cave between May and August. Woot!

To celebrate my new releases, I’m holding a contest. Simply reply to each of this week’s blog posts to have your name tossed into a hat–one entry for each comment. Two lucky winners will receive their choice of an ebook from my backlist. The more blogs you comment on, the better your chances to win!

  3. Why is it summer never seems to last long enough? And I never get everything I thought I would get done, finished. Alright, most of the time not even started so congrats on at least starting projects. Have a great first day back to school.

  4. Congrats on your releases! WTG! And thanks for the chance to win. I need something to make the hot summer hotter! :o)

Hey finishing one is a big deal so don’t worry about the rest. You have been one busy woman this summer. Hell I get tired just looking at everything that you have been doing lol. And that desk was meant for that corner as I have said so all along.

I need to get the newest in The Wild Irish Series as soon as I get a book budget again.

Good Luck with school starting. I am waiting for Novalees first day. I don’t know about the whole going all day thing lol.

  6. Mari, you are truly a busy lady.. you fit in with the other heat authors.
I still don’t know how you all make it happen, but so dang happy you all do.
Don’t enter me in the contest..I have them all 😀
I love seeing where all the dens you authors write in.
I can not believe I missed all the other blog post. So to all who I missed, sorry. But I love you anyways.

    *smooches and Congrats!

  7. I love your little office. I know what you mean about the TBR pile I have been trying to get through mine. I am happy to see I got through a big chunk of it this Summer but now I can’t remember what half of them were.
Enjoy your last few days of Summer maybe you may get some insipiration to write a little more after school starts.

  8. YAAAAY, Mari! *Hugs* I can’t wait for your latest release. 🙂

  9. Michelle H. Says:

Love your stories! Didn’t know you were a teacher. Me too! I go back next week. 😦

  10. Congrats on your new releases and have a great school year!

  11. Heather P Says:

You have had a busy summer…granted it is was not a leisure filled one but you accomplished a lot. So now that school is starting you can write more since all the big home improvements are done. 🙂

  12. School doesn;t start here for another two weeks. I know my sister is ready for her kids to go back to school.

Love all the new releases. Rekindled was awesome.

  13. Can’t wait to get to this book in the series, I love all your books Mari!

  14. Hey, Mari,

Its been a busy Summer for me and the family. I did getter a darker from our trip to Floriday. Can’t avoid the sun around there and not get some scorching from the sun.

I didn’t lose weight, either, which was one of my goals. Hopefully, with the kids back at school I can manage to not eat at restaurants.

I’m really looking forward to the kids going back to school.

  15. Heather in FL Says:

Our school starts this week, too. And hey, at least you got one book done for us. Then again, I’ve only read a couple of yours, so I have a ways to go before I’m waiting with bated breath for the next one! But several of yours are in my TBR. Hope your week this week goes smoothly! With teenagers, I’m sure it’s never a dull moment.

  16. Hallöchen Mari,

As a teacher, you at least have most of the school breaks for yourself, I work in after school care and we “entertain” throughout those breaks too, since not all parents can take off all the time (although we have a lot of paid vacation time in Germany).

Still, I had a list almost as long as yours (not writing but plenty other stuff 😉 and didn’t get half as much done as you did. Love your little writers corner! Close to the fridge – now is that a good thing or bad 😉 I wonder if anyone lost weight over the summer, I sure didn’t. Every little pound I lost during my hiking vacation is back on due to lots of parties with lots of wonderful buffets afterwards.

I did get down my TBR list a bit, although not that much since SOMEONE released 3!!! books this summer, which snuck themselves to the top of my list every time and got read right away 😉 LOVED THEM!!! Can’t wait for the last two of the Wild Irish – a RD for Saturday Night Special known yet?

Anyway, tap yourself on your shoulder for all you HAVE accomplished this summer and have a great start into the new school year! 🙂

    • Kathrin–sending you a tackle hug and big sloppy kiss! So happy you read and enjoyed my new books this summer.

Saturday Night Special will be hitting the EC shelves on Sept. 24. Just got the word about a week ago. Totally tickled as I’ve been waiting and waiting and WAITING to tell Riley and Aaron’s story.

      • *getting off the floor after the tackle hug* 😉

*dusting off by jumping up and down and doing the happy dance* Yeah – have been waiting for their story too, since Riley is such a wild and naughty girl. Can’t wait for Aaron to “tame” her 🙂

btw: just remembered that I read 5!!! of your books since I read the “Learning Curves /Tequila Truth” print too – the one that’s not a beach read 😉

  17. Congrats on your latest release news, and you’ve got to know, Mari, that anything you get around to is just great with us. Good luck getting back into teacher mode, hope you have a great crop of students this year.

  18. Just waving hi, Mari! We just got back from out of town and I am just starting the first of MANY loads of laundry 😉 Also, ants invaded the kids’ room while we were away. A pox on them!

  19. Love the new office – especially that chair. 🙂 I hope you have a great first week with the kids, and don’t work too hard.

  20. As a “former” teacher (do we ever really stop?) I can sympathize with the fact that there is not enough time in those off months to accomplish what we set out to do. I am just grateful that you have time for your writing, because I love the worlds you create, and I look forward to more of the Collins family saga. Just finished Friday-excellence once again I have to say. Love the new office, I hope it generates many more books for us, your loyal readers.

    • Thanks Nancy. I have to admit I’m having trouble starting Any Given Sunday. I think I have a mental block because I don’t want to say goodbye to these characters!

      • Hey, just don’t rule out the possibility of extending the series somehow, or maybe looping back to revisit some of them with a later story (along the lines of an HEA after the HEA kind of thing…) or a holiday special… Or babymaking… I LOVE a series, so I don’t want this to end either!!

  21. Sherry S. Says:

Congratulations on your new releases. I think that as long as you didn’t gain any weight back your doing good. I lost 35 lbs. this year I need to lose more but I’m at a stand still. I hope you have a great school year.

    • 35 pounds!!!! Holy crap–you go girl! You’re my inspiration. Couple of friends at work are taking a Zoomba class. I’m thinking of joining them just to get my big butt moving!

  22. I haven’t read any of your work yet but after this post and having your name show up on a couple of other blogs I frequent I definitely will be. Where do you recommend I start?

    • Well, you know…I’m not sure I’ve ever been asked that question. I love it, but it’s a toughie. Guess it depends on your preferences. If you want a quick, hot read, Tequila Truth or Sugar and Spice could help you pass an evening. If you like series, I have the Wild Irish over at Ellora’s Cave and the first book is Come Monday. If you prefer longer historicals, I have the June Girl series over at Liquid Silver. Hope that helps and fingers crossed I didn’t steer you wrong!

  23. Congrats on your new releases. Here’s hoping you have a great school year. Love your office. It’s always interesting to see where authors write the stories that bring me joy.

  24. Lindsey Ekland Says:

Well the school year should go smoother since you do not have to worry about the kitchen or the bathroom or any of those other projects you finished off in July. Looking forward to many new releases in the next year.

  25. Y’know I am insanely envious of you, don’t you, Mari? And wish I could be you when I grow up?

    🙂

Huge congrats on your release, Mari. Awesome awesome awesome!

  26. Well, sounds like you accomplished some things, so that’s better than nothing! And congrats on the books! You’re totally in the direction I want to be.

  27. When I was a kid summer seemed to last forever but now as I am much older it still sometimes seems to be forever but for different reasons, back then I didn’t want to go to school, now I canna wait for all my kids to go back to school.

  28. I know all about having to go back to school. I just started college this week and all I can think is where did the summer go. I always seem to plan to do things for the summer and by the time summer comes to a close I hardly did anything I planned to do. 😀 At least you accomplished some things. That’s always a plus.

  29. Love the new “office” MC!! Can’t wait to read the “Wild Irish series” It’s next on my wish list, hint, hint! Bought a nook so now can download ALL of your books!

  30. The picture of your office look great. And I am definitely going to start The Wild Irish series very soon. I love what I have read so far. After raising 7 kids I am sooo thrilled they are all done 🙂

  31. I like your little office area. It’s great when you can have space in a busy house that is just yours(that’s not your bedroom).

  32. Yvonne R. Says:

Love the new office! Good luck this week back at EDJ.
