What to do when you see the train coming…

Posted in Lila Dubois on February 9, 2015 by Lila Dubois

… But can’t get out of the way?

There are a limited number of truly life changing events that you can see coming. Those that you can–starting a new job, getting married–you can prep for. And if you hate your new job or your new spouse you can’t just quit that bitch!

The ones that you don’t see coming, that you can’t prep for–illness, getting fired–usually rock your world so hard that you just deal in whatever half-assed way you can.

One week from today (Monday) is my due date. As far as I can tell I’m about to get body slammed by the worst of both kinds of change. I know it’s coming, and I’m prepping, but I know no matter what I do I won’t really be ready.

I tried to convince Farm Boy that we should not have kids, get another cat, and travel the world. He said “er…” And then looked pointedly at my rather large stomach.

T-minus one week people. This is not a drill.

Here’s a progress shot of the nursery.

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Posted in Lila Dubois on November 27, 2014 by Lila Dubois

Happy thanksgiving to all my US based pals! To everyone outside the US, remember to have a Turkey sandwich today.

I’m starting the day off my hauling myself, and this big lump under my shirt, through a 5 k in support of a food bank.

Please ignore how tired I look. Pretend I look perky and excited!

And wish Farm Boy Press luck, as he’s running the 10k with an actual time based goal in mind.

Recovering in Ireland

Posted in Lila Dubois on August 24, 2014 by Lila Dubois

Ireland may not seem like the place to come to recover when you’re feeling crummy, and frankly, it’s probably not. Unless you’re me, and going to Ireland means sitting close to the stove, eating homemade bread and then getting babied by your mother-in-law (yes, Farm Boy’s mom is seriously the best.) I’m currently in Ireland, looking out the window at a bush and the cows beyond, and thankfully, for the first time in a while, feeling like all is right with the world.

And how could I not when we take daily trips to amazing places like these?

Newgrange (passage grave)

Newgrange (a famous passage grave 500 years older than the pyramids)

Kerb Stone at Newgrange

The Boyne River (a little tributary)

The village of Trim (view from inside Trim Castle)

But, you may be wondering, what’s WRONG with you, Lila? Why isn’t “C is for…” out? What about the 5th Trinity Masters book? Why have you disappeared from Facebook and twitter?

I promise you I have a very good reason. A reason I will tell you about…

May Releases Recap!

Posted in Bianca D'Arc, Jess Dee, Lila Dubois, Mari Carr, New Releases on May 31, 2013 by maricarr

I thought it might be nice to offer a quick reference guide at the end of every month to share what books by Intl. Heat writers released during that month. We’re kicking it off with May releases! It was a quiet beginning to the month, but boy…we ended strong!

May 27

Grif-200x300Tales of the Were: Grif (Redstone Clan #1) by Bianca D’Arc

Griffon Redstone is the eldest of five brothers and the leader of one of the most influential shifter Clans in North America. He seeks solace in the mountains, away from the horrific events of the past months, for both himself and his young sister. The deaths of their older sister and mother have hit them both very hard.

Lindsey Tate is human, but very aware of the werewolf Pack that lives near her grandfather’s old cabin. She’s come to right a wrong her grandfather committed against the Pack and salvage what’s left of her family’s honor – if the wolves will let her. Mostly, they seem intent on running her out of town on a rail.

But the golden haired stranger, Grif, comes to her rescue more than once. He stands up for her against the wolf Pack and then helps her fix the old generator at the cabin, making it habitable for her while she completes her task. He’s friendly and all too attractive, but she has a job to do, regardless of the cost to herself or her budding relationship with the local handyman.

When she performs the ceremony she expects will end in her death, the shifter deity has other ideas and turns the tables on them all. Grif’s dual nature is revealed and Lindsey learns there is much more going on than she thought.

Thrown together by fate, neither of them can deny the deep and true attraction between them. They come together, but in the end will an old enemy rip them apart?

Warning: Cats are frisky and they get up to all sorts of naughtiness, including a frenzy-induced multi-partner situation that might be a little intense for some readers. You have been warned.

The Fire and the Earth by Lila Dubois

He can protect her from anything, living or dead. Except from himself.

Glenncailty Castle, Book 2

Sean Donovan knows all too well the horrors of Glenncailty Castle. Ten years ago, after a young woman’s death, he boarded the place up himself—and almost lost his own life doing it.

It would be easy to avoid Glenncailty, if it weren’t for the woman who now runs it as a hotel. Something about the angel-faced redhead calls to him—and calls him to protect her from the darkness seething in the castle walls.

Sorcha has gotten used to calming rattled guests who claim to have met a spirit from the castle’s tragic past. But two years after Sean’s attempt to convince her to leave melted down into an unforgettable kiss, she realizes she needs his help.

The ghosts of the castle are restless, and growing more so. When one of the staff is attacked, Sorcha turns to Sean, not knowing the kind of danger she’s put him in. Working together blows the lid off desire long denied, but laying the ghosts of Glenncailty to rest means facing her own past. If she doesn’t, the ghosts might tear Sean apart from the inside out, and that would mean never knowing what could have been…

More Than Friends by Jess Dee

He was her best friend…until he became her fantasy.

More Than story.

Lucy Lawson’s got it bad. Bad as in stunned speechless by the situation she’s in, by the feelings sitting on her chest, ready to explode. She’s in love…with her best friend.

Problem is, telling Sebastian Blackford could destroy the best thing in her life, but the longer she keeps her feelings under wraps, the stronger the need to spill her secret.

The last thing Seb suspects is that his best mate is madly, wildly in love with him, or that he’s the star of her seriously dirty fantasies. Worse, he’s just started seeing someone he’d like to see again—and Lucy knows it.

So why does her confession hit him like a runaway train? And why can’t he get her explicit description of her fantasies out of his mind? They’ve never been more than friends, but now that he knows how Lucy feels, everything is out of whack.

Seb figures it’s up to him to get their relationship back on track. He’ll do it too, just as soon as he establishes which track is the right one.

Screaming Orgasm by Mari Carr

Cocktales, Book Four

Jayne Kent has watched her best friends and business partners fall in love while romance continues to pass her by. When Books and Brew regular Elias Clark offers her a Screaming Orgasm, she wishes it was the sexual variety rather than a lousy drink. She’s been lusting after Elias forever and suspects he could bring all her naughty, kinky fantasies to life.

Elias has resisted his attraction to Jayne for years, assuming his dominance in the bedroom would send sweet, romantic Jayne running for the hills. Or would it? Alone in a snowstorm, Elias tests the waters and is blown away by Jayne’s innate submissiveness and eagerness to stretch her boundaries. Ice play? Bondage? Flogging? Bring it on.

Soon it’s no longer a question of whether or not Elias should pursue Jayne, even if she’s not sure she’s brave enough to submit to him forever. She’s made for him, and this determined alpha male will stop at nothing until he’s claimed her—completely.

Screaming Orgasm is available at Ellora’s CaveAmazon and Barnes and Noble, and Kobo.

Forgot How to Write Sex

Posted in Lila Dubois on May 15, 2013 by Lila Dubois

Those who were at the 2013 RT convention probably had to, at some point, listen to me talk about the non-Lila book I’ve been writing. I was supposed to have it done before the conference, but that didn’t happen. In fact, Mari Carr and Lexxie Couper both took one look at what I had left in my outline and grimly informed me that I had weeks of writing left (and damn it they’re right).

Tonight I was working on the book’s one and only sex scene, and I had no idea how to write it. I’ve never written sex for a non-erotic book before and I was totally stumped. How descriptive should it be? What words would these characters use to describe body parts, positions and sex events?

While describing my writers block to my Farm Boy he got that helpful look he gets when I say I have writers block. As he headed towards me I had to throw a pillow at him and yell “Stop!”

When he looked at me like I was nuts I had to explain that these characters are more than a little damaged, the fact that they’re having sex is both awesome and weird, and just generally it’s not the same as when other characters get their freak on. His brand of help, though usually appreciated, in this case would lead to me needing therapy.

We’re going to…

Posted in Bianca D'Arc, Jess Dee, Lexxie Couper, Lila Dubois, Mari Carr, Rhian Cahill, Valerie Tibbs on April 28, 2013 by maricarr

…Kansas City. Kansas City, here we come! The ladies of International Heat are taking the BBQ capital by storm as we all converge in the Midwest for the Romantic Times Convention. Valerie will arrive Sunday afternoon, while Lexxie and I hit the hotel late Sunday evening. Lila and Rhian (and Mr. C.) will arrive Monday around dinner time, and Bianca (her dad) and Jess are joining us Tuesday midday. To say we’re all excited about this opportunity to hang out, while attending fun sessions and drinking at the bar with reader friends is an UNDERstatement! We’ve been practically giddy for months!

There are two events that are open to the public. If you’re a KC local, we’d love to meet you!

DAY PASSES ARE AVAILABLE!

On Thursday, May 2 from 4 – 6 pm, there will be an ebook expo with more than 300 e-book and small press authors and many graphic novel authors. RT recommends that you download any QR Code Reader from iTunes since many authors will have a QR (Quick Response) Code on their promo materials. With this QR Reader you can scan the code on your mobile device and go right to the book you want to purchase. You can buy your E-Book, Indie Publisher and Graphic Novel Expo ticket at the door for $5. The location is at the Sheraton Kansas City Crown Center, 2345 McGee Street, Kansas City, Mo., 64180. Tickets can be purchased on site and we suggest you arrive at 3:30 pm.

FOR THOSE WHO *CANNOT* ATTEND THE EXPO IN PERSON

Join in the virtual EXPO event!

THIS YEAR THE RT EXPO IS GOING GLOBAL! ARe is the official bookseller for RT’s Expo and this year they are making the book lover event global so that everyone from home can participate. Join in the fun by visiting this page on May 2 from 4pm to 6pm and attend the virtual event! Just click on any author’s name and it will take you to her unique author page on All Romance e-Books website where you can begin purchasing. If you do not already have an account with ARe, you should set one up before the EXPO begins to make your purchasing easy on the day of the event.

This year’s giant book fair will take place on Saturday, May 4th from 11am – 2pm.

For those bringing collectibles and “keeper” books, they have a system to separate these books for you, so as not to mistake them for new books! You can purchase a $5 ticket at the door to attend just the book fair.

We hope to see you in Kansas City!
