Favorite Things: Authors–Anne’s Picks

My top five authors. For me this is a BIG question. First I had to ask myself, ‘what makes an author great?’ Well, for me it’s the heroine. I think we’ve all read the TSTL (too stupid to live) heroines. None of us ever want to read those. So, what makes a heroine so memorable? What is it about her that will push that author’s name to the top of my auto-buy list?

Here are five authors with heroines I’ve read and loved.

Christine Feehan—She’s my #2 favorite author. She has terrific heroines, but one really stands out. Tempest in Dark Fire.  She was a mechanic and I like heroines who don’t have a typical female job. She was tough but sweet too.

Lori Foster—She’s always been a sure bet, but I especially loved Grace from Too Much Temptation. She was so on fire and ready for sex and
I loved it!  And I enjoyed that she wasn’t a raving beauty. She was plump and Noah loved her for it.

Erin McCarthy—She’s one of the very few authors that have managed to get me to laugh out loud. If you’ve read The Pregnancy Test, then you know what I mean.  Mandy, the heroine was just freaking hilarious.  I’ll never forget her character.

Shannon McKenna–She’s known for pushing the limits with her sex scenes and her heroes. In fact, a few times she went a bit too far for my taste. However, I have to include her as a favorite because of Erin in Standing in the Shadows. Erin and Connor’s relationship  felt real to me. With all their issues and problems, the feelings between them, the love they had for each other. It was all there and it was sexy!

Nalini Singh–Easily my #1 favorite author. I had a hard time narrowing down why I love her writing style so much, until I thought of the Guild Hunter series. I don’t read urban fantasy. Singh’s series is the one and only exception. I love Elena, the heroine. She’s strong. She does what needs to be done. She fights for what she believes in. She stands by her man and she’s not afraid to kick him in the ass when he needs it. But she’s also vulnerable and she’s been hurt a lot. The reader can’t help but admire a heroine like that.

Well, that’s my list. What do ya think? 🙂

I often find it’s the elusive SOMETHING that makes me love an author’s work.

  2. Great list, Anne! I love many of them, too! I’d add SEP and Ann Aguirre to mine…

  3. I like your list and I own some of their books and again I haven’t read them, shame on me.
