A Birthday Present For You

(Note from Jess on  the 16th of Oct: HEYA. I haven’t forgotten about the contest. Will pick a winner tomorrow.)

Yep, it’s my birthday today.

I’m 41.

No, there’s no way to escape it, and yes it makes me feel very, very sad. (Well, except maybe for the thought of presents, which makes me feel lots happier.)

So, how should I celebrate?

Well, that’s an easy one. By giving you a present.

I haven’t had a release of a new book in a looooong time. Which is why I am so excited about my December release of Raising The Stakes.

So excited, I thought I’d give away an ARC to one lucky reader. Anyone interested?

All you need to do is leave a comment on one of two blogs. This one, or Down Under Divas. (I’m feeling a little lazy, so I’m posting identical blogs.)

So what should you comment about? Easy. I’m looking for advice on how to feel younger. And buh-lieve me, I am open to any options. Any.

Be as creative as you like, as fun as you like, as honest as you like.

One lucky winner will receive the ARC of Raising The Stakes.

Now there’s one little problem.

I haven’t yet received my cover art for the book (coz I’m fussy and cover artist Scott Carpenter is probably ready to ring my neck around now.) So the prize winner might have to wait a couple weeks before receiving the ARC. Unless you’re happy to take it coverless, then you can have it ASAP.

Not sure if you want to win it?

Well, have a read through the blurb, and you can decide for yourself.

Play out the hand her way…or fold?

Three of a Kind, Book 2 (The sequel to Going All In)

After four years, Megan Loxley has given up waiting for her best friend, Desmond Reed, to realize she loves him. It’s time to move on. When Des introduces her to his poker buddy, Alex Truman, the instantaneous sparks that flare between them signal her life is about to change forever.

Des could kick himself. How could he have failed to notice the perfect woman was by his side all this time? Now it’s too damn late. And her innocent prodding about why he’s suddenly so distant is only making his hunger for her worse. Then she gets one step too close—and his self-restraint snaps.

Stunned, bewildered, furious, Meg can’t help but respond to the kisses for which she waited so long. God help her, she loves Des. And Alex, too. Immeasurably. Now what?

It may make her the greediest woman alive, but she’s determined to win the next hand— even if she has to change the game a little. First step: state her wildly sexy proposition in a language both men will understand…and hope they’ll stick around and play by her rules.

Warning: If you’re looking for a cool game of poker, you won’t find it here. This novella is so hot the cards are still smoking. The heroine may be new to the game, but she knows exactly how to play her two kings.

Good luck!

Happy Birthday Jess1 please do not enter me in the contest 🙂

  2. Happy birthday, Jess! I’ll be catching up to you in just a couple months 🙂 Thanks for giving us a cool, classy example to aspire to 😉

    • Thanx Fedora.
      LOL, cool and classy huh?
*Snort* not sure many people would agree with you on that.

Let me know when you do catch up so I can return the wishes.

      • Will do 😉 As for whether or not others agree, it just depends–do you want to be or not? Sounds like fun either way 🙂

Jess, you are young! I turned 45 this year. Like the saying goes “you are only as old as you feel” so start feeling younger! lol

You know how much I love Going All In and I can’t wait to read Raising The Stakes!

  4. Heather in FL Says:

Happy birthday!!! Oh, the story sounds good… I’d love to see it before everyone else. 🙂

  5. Happy Birthday. I still have a few weeks before I turn 52 so 41 sounds young to me. Heck, at 40, I celebrated my birthday in Panama. For 46, I was in Kuwait. I’m not sure how to feel old…..so how to stay young. Keep doing things and having fun. don’t think I can’t do that but figure out how. And, as I attend our unofficial class reunion this weekend, I’ll even think of you while we check out all the micro beers. Maybe, I’ll even have my motorcycle out of the shop.

    • Holy Moly!
You cannot possibly feel old. You simply don’t have the time.
Panama, Kuwait. Yowska, you’ve been in some way out places for your birthdays.

Enjoy the class reunion, micro beers and motor cycle.
And from now on I swear to try and feel as young as you sound.

      • Jess, being in the military will get you to some out of the way places…..some good, some not so good. Heck, I spent my 33rd birthday in boot camp! Don’t let your kids slow you down or be an excuse. I had 4 kids by 26 and some of the older kids favorite memories are of camping all over Europe. I will admit that I don’t do all nighters like I use to and bed looks good a lot earlier than it use to but that doesn’t mean I don’t do things or have fun.

I hope you had a great birthday and may you have many more.

      • Terri
(Hmm, wonder if this will show up as a reply to your second comment. I hope so.)

I wondered if you were in the military, but didn’t want to ask.
        Wow, you’ve really lived huh?
4 kids by 26, and then all your experiences from 33 onwards.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you lived near me I would use my cake decorating skills to cheer you up. 🙂

Happy Birthday . Well I have made it to the 40s yet but my granny always said keep a young spirit and u’ll stay young so that puts u at about 25 right 🙂

First thing, Happy Birthday! When I turned 32 this year, I went out dancing w/ a bunch of friends. One thing that keeps me feeling young is that I don’t focus on my age (my best friend turns 27 tomorrow & she talks about how she’s an old lady). To me, it’s just a number.

  9. Happy Birthday Jess!

My BFF always feels horrible when her birthday comes around so we started a sort of “tradition”. Every birthday we grab a couple of other friends and do something fun the entire day. Movies, go-cart racing, random shopping/road trips, laser tag, water balloon fights whatever we can think of. Of course we got in trouble for the last one but that’s another story. Heehee 🙂

  10. Well Jess I’ve got a few yrs. on you and I have to say I have more fun now then I did when the kids were young and at home. I think then you have to be more responsible. So just have fun and party! 🙂

  11. Happy birthday!

I think to aid in the feeling young (and I purposefully have not read any other posts, so I apologize if there are any identical twins), you need only to have the ability to look at the little things with appreciation: beautiful sunsets and mild nights, the way your kids look asleep, and of course having great friends to go out with. I highly suggest making an event of a regular girls night (if you don’t already have one) and have different themes each time: movie night, try a new restaurant night, get mani-pedis night, whatever.

I know those help me, so may you feel every young without ever making the same youthful mistakes!

And that would be way #3: remember the mistakes you made when you were young enough to believe you knew everything 🙂

  12. Happy Birthday 🙂 By the way you and I share the same birthday. Enjoy your birthday , at 41 you’re still young and it just shows how far you’ve come . Have fun and love your life and celebrate all your years thus far.

  13. Happy Birthday, Jess. I hope it’s filled with joy and presents. Relieving even a bit of stress in your life is bound to make you feel better, more carefree and younger.

  14. Mary Preston Says:

Age is a state of mind. Enjoy every day. Treat yourself like a princess. It works like a charm for me. May all your birthday wishes come true.

  15. Faerydreamer/Dianne B. Says:

Happy Birthday!! I would love to win your book.

  16. Hi Jess
Happy Happy Birthday!! Seems a few of my fave authors were born this week. Libras are very creative! Love the excerpt.

  17. Happy Birthday!!! I hope you have a wonderful day. I just turned 41 on Sept. 28th. but I still act like I’m in my early 30’s and sometimes even younger than that.

  18. Since I visit both of these blogs I was tempted to cut and paste from the DUD site but figured that was cheating. If you change it up you are only 14 – does that work?

  19. Happy Birthday. Enjoy yourself, do something Naughty, that always makes me feel younger, lol.
